Field Notes/ the record of your fieldwork, which provides a description of the 'culture' you’re working within, Phoebe Davies for Fieldwork Studio

Invited to festival Feral 2022, Welsh artist and farmer Phoebe Davies shared a cartography based on the principles of organic farming. These principles are drawn as a proposal to nourish our 'cultures of work', working the land as working the cultural field.

Fieldwork Studio is a Community Interest Company, which aims to foster understanding and advance education across creative industries and ecology. Fieldwork Studio is led by Phoebe Davies in partnership with Slade Farm Organics, a three-generation family farm tenancy situated on the Glamorgan Heritage Coast. The studio programme spans artist development, rural residencies and community growing. Fieldwork is artist-led, and centres approaches from organic farming and rural culture to support regenerative practices, rest, care and sustainable working within the arts, ecology and agriculture.

Phoebe Davies works across moving-image, performance, print and sound. Her work is often shaped by collaborative models of working from different social and cultural sectors, including methodologies from athleticism, activism, speculative fiction and organic farming. Phoebe’s practice is formed by long-term fieldwork, regularly working with and in response to individuals, communities and locations. Through collaborating with intergenerational groups of performers and non-performers alike she generates work through performance to camera, freewriting and field recording.
